Homestead Exemption:

Florida residents who own and live
in a home as of January 1 of any given year are given an exemption
of $25,000 off the assessed value of the home. You must file for the
exemption with the County Property Appraiser between January 1 and
March 1 for the first time. It will renew automatically on an annual
basis. The county will send you the renewal by mail. No action is
necessary by you.

The formula
for figuring out the amount of taxes on a home in these two counties is
full of variables. An example would be:
Take the Homestead Exemption and
subtract it from from the appraised value (this is set by the property
appraiser)
Take the appraised value and using the
tax rate take the last 3 digits off your appraised value. (If the home
appraised for $250,000, than the number you would work with would be
250)
Multiply 250 by the tax rate. Now you
have an estimate of the property tax.
